Guiding Principles
While I cannot speak to individual bills that may arise, I wish to state here some guiding principles of which I believe that would form the foundation of my policy positions:
I believe first and foremost in the words Benjamin Franklin spoke at the Constitutional Convention where he said: “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that “except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel”.
I believe that the ills of our society can be traced back to a rejection of God in the public square. We’ve allowed God to be removed from our government, our schools and workplaces. We teach our children that they came from monkey’s and wonder why they act like animals. I believe it’s time true Christian politicians put Christ first instead of a simply use Him as a campaign slogan.
I believe America to be the greatest country in the history of man, because it was founded upon the Bible and Biblical principles.
I believe that conservative principles are in truth Biblical principles.
I believe the best government is the one which supports it’s citizens by not standing in the way of their progress by both unnecessary regulation or by enabling their poor choices with government subsidies.
I believe welfare should be a temporary safety net, not a lifestyle.
I believe - as our founders did - that the 1st Amendment was to protect the church from the state, not the state from the church. This was the intent of the “Separation of Church and State” found in Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists 1802.
I believe our founders were wise in the drafting of the 2nd Amendment so as to protect the 1st. Our liberty was bought by the blood of patriots, and must be guarded by armed citizens willing to do the same if necessary.
I believe we owe it to all citizens the promise of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. This life extends to the unborn, and while happiness cannot be guaranteed, the pursuit of it is.
I believe government - whether local, state or national cannot be in the business of managing outcomes, only opportunities. It is the duty of men to make of these opportunities what they will
I believe in personal responsibility. Men should strive to be an asset to their fellow neighbor, not a burden. I strongly believe in charity, though that decision should be left unto the individual, not required by government tax dollars.
I believe parents should be supported in, not dictated to, the manner in which they choose to educate their children.
I believe that part of being a good steward of the earth, we should responsibility harvest the fossil fuels God has provided for us for the advancement and betterment of our society.
I believe God has honored and respected nations and national boundaries. If God sees fit to have walls in Heaven, He sees nothing wrong with walls around our nations borders.
I believe in keeping marijuana illegal. The detrimental effects of this drug, whether bought by prescription or on the street upon our communities and our children far outweigh any benefits we could claim.
